OUR STORY

Our family has been purveying Chinese cuisine for over four decades offering exceptional tastes from the Sichuan, Cantonese and Mandarin regions. It all started in the 70’s when we opened our first Sichuan restaurant in New York City's Chinatown. As we continued to develop our mastery and craft, our family business expanded with locations in Queens and Long Island.

In 1986, we opened Hunan Taste in Denville, NJ.  Our restaurant was built out of an old roller-skating rink and meticulously designed to reflect the architecture of an ancient Chinese-style pagoda.  Hunan Taste now sits as a major landmark in downtown Denville. Throughout the years, our establishment has gained a reputation for fine dining Chinese fare, ornate décor and an ultimate dining experience.  A number of accolades have been collected, having been featured as one of the premier award-winning restaurants in Northern New Jersey. We have received high remarks from Zagat's Survey, and has been named "Best Chinese Food" nine years in a row by Reader's Choice, to name a few.

In 2016, we opened our second location in Upper Montclair, NJ.  This location is intended to have a different dining experience. While the menu is from the same thoughtfully crafted recipes passed down from generations, the atmosphere is juxtaposed with an old-world European setting, where guests can escape and indulge in an opulent setting. 

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe in unique food offerings with fresh, high quality ingredients. We use all natural zero trans fat, zero cholesterol vegetable oil, offer gluten-free options and can accommodate vegetarians and other dietary restrictions. With our secret family recipes, we create the classic Chinese dishes with a perfect balance of flavors. Our dumpling sauce alone has over 20 ingredients! Additionally, we’ve curated a separate carte with traditional Chinese dishes suited to satisfy the adventurous diner.  

We believe in presidential service and a dining experience like no other. Each location has its own unique charm designed to immerse you once you step in.  We intend for each guest to feel transformed, from the music and decor, to the taste of each dish. With our extensive wine list and full bar (Denville location), we enhance the experience with delicious pairings to make your taste buds bloom.

We believe in sharing our culture and building friendships. We are so grateful to have formed solid relationships over the years.  Our community always inspires us to find new and innovative ways to celebrate our culture through friendship and food.  We love introducing new and exciting dishes especially during our Chinese New Year festivities.
